Profiles. The Women's
Tour Down Under opens up the competition for the Women's World Tour in the 2024 season. In Australia, the riders find three days of racing with good weather and exciting stages.
The race is the first big competition of the year for the women's peloton. Hence, the stages are short. It features a day for the sprinters, one for the puncheurs and another for the climbers. All-in-all, an exciting start to racing this season.
Stage 1: Hahndorf - Campbelltown, 94 kilometers
The first stage of the race takes place from Hahndorf to Campbelltown. It is a stage for the sprinters, most likely. Two categorized climbs, but a few other uncategorized hilltops. A downhill trend to the finish over the final third of the stage, however the final kilometers are flat and the first ochre jersey should be a fast woman.
Stage 2: Glenelg - Stirling, 104 kilometers
Stage 2 features the traditional finale in Stirling. The city this year only hosts a finale in the women's race, but it always delivers. The stage starts off with a couple hilltops before arriving at the final circuit. Three laps in Stirling which feature a combination of final climbs of 3.8 kilometers at 3.6% and the one which matches with the finish: 1.9Km at 3.8%.
Stage 3: Adelaide - Willunga Hill, 94 kilometers
The final stage of the race begins in Adelaide with two tricky climbs where a strong group can go up the road. However, the GC should ultimately be decided towards the end of the stage and race. The mythical Old Willunga Hill finishes the race, it is 3.4 kilometers at 7.3% and will create decisive gaps.
