Milano-Sanremo Women will take place for the very first time this year, and it will be taking place on the same day as the men's peloton: 22nd of March. The 'longest race in professional cycling' will now also be tackled by the women's peloton, where an array of stars is expected to battle for a prestigious victory. We take a look at it's profile.
The race is of course not 300 kilometers long, but the women's peloton will tackle a whole 156 kilometers starting in Genova. The essence of the route is the same, the first 100 kilometers are flat and a 'warm-up' for the action that will ensue later.
The finale is exactly the one that everyone is familiar with. Capo Mele (1.6Km; 4%; 52Km to go), Capo Cervo (1.7Km; 3.2%; 47Km to go) and Capo Berta (1.9Km; 6.3%; 39Km to go); followed by the ascent to Cipressa (5.6Km; 4%; 22Km to go) and it's technical downhill; and finally the famous Poggio di Sanremo (3.7Km; 3.7%; 6Km to go) which leaves the riders only with a few kilometers to the finish in Via Roma.
