Primoz Roglic had a very tense day at Paris-Nice yesterday as he looked to seal the overall win. The goal was achieved, albeit with a lot of work and a lot of pressure as Simon Yates put the Slovenian under pressure.
“It was a super tough day today. I wasn’t having my best day. The team was super strong again today. But we have Wout and Wout can do anything. I am very happy with him," Roglic said. After some days where the collective block wasn't as strong, today Jumbo-Visma showed their classic level as they prevented a threatening breakaway from going up the road early in the day, and team leader Primoz Roglic was never isolated despite being heavily attacked.
After Daniel Martínez attacked at the Côte de Peille van Aert and Roglic were part of a group of five that went clear. Van Aert seemed to have the legs to match anyone, as he paced the group all the way until the bottom of the Col d'Èze, and then resisted the attacks up the steep slopes to keep pacing Roglic almost uninterruptedly until the finish in Nice. The duo finished only nine seconds behind Simon Yates missing out on the stage win, but the priority which was the general classification was secured thus putting the cherry on top of a brilliant week for the team.

"We have had a great week. Everyone in the team had their part in this victory. It was tense at the end, but we reached our goal. I am happy and relieved with this victory," he concluded. Jumbo-Visma won three stages this week besides general and points classification. Two of those wins saw the Dutch team complete the Top3.
The duo will be racing together next weekend at Milano-Sanremo where the roles are likely to reverse as van Aert will be looking to replicate his 2020 triumph in the Via Roma.
