Primoz Roglic pulls the plug on 2022 season, focuses on recovery and 2023

Primoz Roglic had a season of several ups and downs, and as October creeps in, Jumbo-Visma have reportedly already confirmed that the Slovenian will not be racing again this year, in order to rest and recover from his injuries before beginning his build-up to 2023.

Following his crash at the Vuelta a Espana, Roglic was forced to abandon with several injuries in his right side of the body, which was bloody across the finish line on the 16th stage of the race. These injuries saw him out of the World Championships where he had planned to be racing, and with no major surprise, sources within CyclingPro.net have reported that he will not race Il Lombardia as he was also planned to.

Hence this concludes the Slovenian's season, one where he won Paris-Nice and the Critérium du Dauphiné, aswell as having won stages and led both Itzulia Basque Country and Vuelta a Espana. By most riders' standards, a very successful season, however one that was scathered with injuries that took him out of his main goals.

Roglic first suffered a muscle injury at Itzulia which saw him fall out of the fight for the win in the last stages, which seemed to undermine his preparation for the Tour de France. He was able to recover from it in time however, but at the Tour he crashed in the cobblestone stage on the fifth day and suffered a dislocated shoulder and two broken vertebrae, which later forced him to abandon the race as Jumbo-Visma soared to the win.

He recovered just in time for the Vuelta a Espana in record-speed, entering the race with a stage win and an early lead. He was in the fight for the victory and a fourth consecutive title, but the crash on the final week saw his season come to a premature end.
