Preview Trofeo Ses Salines 2026 team time trial - Can Remco Evenepoel win in his first race at Red Bull?

The Trofeo Ses Salines takes on a completely different format in 2026. The second out of the Challenge Mallorca races is a team time trial this year, taking place on the 29th of January, used by some to prepare for the Tour de France already. We preview the race, which is set to start at 14:00CET and finish at around 15:50CET.
Held each January on the sun-drenched island of Mallorca as part of the Challenge Mallorca, the Trofeo Ses Salines is this year the second race out of the Spanish event. The race first appeared in the late 1990s and has since been a popular destination for riders to test their early-season form and try to get ahead of the competition.
Over its history, the Trofeo Ses Salines has seen a mix of sprint finishes and classics specialist win in its roads. Some of the most recognizable names in recent editions include multiple winners like Dutch sprinter Marijn van den Berg, who has taken the victory twice; but also Frenchman Paul Magnier, victorious in 2024, his first ever win as a professional rider. In 2025 this was a race designed for the sprinters with van den Berg taking the win for EF, however this year its a completely different affair.
The team time trial will be taking place from Ses Salines to Sant Jordi, with 23.8 kilometers on the menu. It is not a very long effort, but it is mostly flat and provides the opportunity for teams to fully test their TTT setups. It's an interesting format for a one-day race, a different challenge for the early-season calendar. We should expect lots of eyes on this race specifically this year, perhaps as the most notable of the Challenge Mallorca events, due to the presence of Remco Evenepoel who will make his debut in the colours of Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe.

- Ah, sorry. Ok, rewind. The first guy annoys JV who decides to “try to get rid of him” (which I doubt he’d do if he’d been asked coz then he would have had the chance to say no and that should have been it). The video (am not going to watch it unless someone tells me there are other important details not mentioned in the story) seems to show distance but this in no way describes the previous episode (at least it seems the guy didn’t pop out his phone while on JVs wheel, which isn’t unknown). I guess we can also safely assume if the distance had been 100-150 all the time, JV would never have noticed or been bothered. Now, though it’s not very clear, it sounds like both riders stopped, the annoyer carrying on before the 2nd guy came? But (and put yourself in the situation of someone who just crashed hard in the middle of nowhere), maybe JV imagines the 2nd rider might be associated with the 1st? It’s not like he would have paid much attention to the number and possible relationship between riders around him in what seems like quite a short period. - Also, this is a pro’s job, training on roads (especially those they will be racing on). Other multimillionaires also drive their cars on the public roads Joe uses and expect not to have hoards of fans driving in convoy behind. Only multibillionaires can almost escape that with private aircraft, not exactly what society should be aiming to emulate. - Oh, I did not forget. My experience has been that riders who are strong enough to stay on my wheel (or the wheel of any skilled rider who reads this site, I imagine) during high-speed descents are knowledgeable and respectful of road etiquette. Aside from this, giving privilege to pro riders opens the door wider to elitism, and no one needs that.itsent28-01-2026
