The final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico gave way to a very chaotic sprint, in which Bahrain - Victorious consolidated a strong week by taking their fourth win of the season, as Phil Bauhaus overpowered the competition to take an important win.
“It was a fantastic week for the team. Today as a team, we did everything possible for us. The boys did an amazing job in supporting me in the finale. Then on the last km, I was mainly on my own, and I knew I had to do timing perfectly, then I followed other wheels," Bauhaus said after the finish.
Although the German had not been absent, he was not close to the win on the race's first two sprint stages, having finished sixth and seventh. With some of the sprinters having abandoned to focus on Milano-Sanremo and the spring classics, Bauhaus had some more room but nevertheless had tough competition in today's sprint. He rode the final in the wheels far from the headwind that was present in the finishing straight, and was quite far from the front when Alexander Kristoff launched his sprint.
However, taking advantage of the headwind he moved from the wheels with a lot of speed from the left to the right side of the road and carried speed in for the win. "I’m super happy with this victory. It is a big one, actually," he concluded.
Bauhaus will miss Milano-Sanremo to focus on the Volta a Catalunya where he will be hunting for more sprint stage wins.
