Last year he was beaten by Jasper Philipsen, after Mathieu
van der Poel reeled the Slovenian’s attack in. Some may be wondering why Pogacar
has always decided to attack on the Poggio, given it is so close to the finish,
and why he doesn’t try and win before the climb. After all, he won the World
Championships in Zurich with a 100km solo attack, among other crazy long
distance attacks in 2024, including at Strade Bianche and Il Lombardia.
Milano-Sanremo will take place on the 22nd March
2025, so there’s just under 4 months until the first monument of the new
season. It is impressive that Pogacar still has so much hunger to win, given
how much he achieved in 2024. But Milano-Sanremo has proved to be the most
difficult race for Pogacar in his career so far, and he has not been able to
distance more powerful riders before the sprint so far. Could 2025 be his year?
Whilst Pogacar has yet to confirm his schedule for 2025, he
will probably be returning to the Tour de France to attempt to win his fourth
yellow jersey. Whilst he may not ride the Giro d’Italia again, he may also try
and win the Vuelta a Espana, a race which like
Milano-Sanremo he has yet to
win.
