The
UAE Team Emirates rider was a late addition to the team after designated sprinter Fernando Gaviria tested positive for Covid. After not having the legs on the opening day,
Pascal Ackermann finished the second stage of the
UAE Tour in third place behind
Mark Cavendish and has drawn confidence from the result.
“It was a nervous start with a lot of wind so it was important to move together as a team and stay protected. After we survived the crosswind we worked towards the sprint. Richeze did a great job and brought me up perfectly to the wheel of Cavendish," the German sprinter said after the finish.
"Unluckily I couldn’t finish it off because I got a bit blocked but I’m happy that we were able to be up with the other sprinters and it gives me confidence for the last two sprints that are coming. Now we’ll work towards the GC for the next couple if days," Ackermann added.
Ackermann will surely have some responsability in the coming stage into Jebel Jais in protecting defending champion Tadej Pogacar, however his focus will be on stages five and six where he will have the opportunity to be at the front once again and try to collect his first World Tour win since the 2020 Vuelta a España.
