Lotte Kopecky had a great season in 2024, where she
successfully
defended her world title and won other big races like Paris-Roubaix
and Strade Bianche. After some time off, Kopecky returned to racing at the Six
Days of Ghent track cycling race held in Belgium, where she won both her races.
Speaking to
Het Laatste Nieuws before the event, Kopecky said,
“It took long enough, right? Three weeks, that must be the longest rest period
I have ever had. It was quite busy at home, with many obligations. But it was
really nice, such an active holiday in South Africa with my father. It was the
perfect period to be there.”
“Conditionally, I am at a bit of a low point in the past
three years, because I have never been still for so long,” Kopecky admitted
before the start. “We will see. I really have no idea how it will go. I know
myself. I will not be satisfied if I do not win. But the main thing is to get
the engine going again.”
But after getting the cobwebs off, Kopecky eased back in to
the swing of things, and took two wins at the event, it was as if she never
left. "My condition was better than I feared. I really enjoyed myself.
It's great fun to ride around here. It feels like coming home. Nevertheless,
I'm not ready to win classics yet!”
