Taking just a second pro win in his career, Dutch national time trial champion
Daan Hoole has powered to a stage 10 success against the clock at the 2025
Giro d'Italia, this Tuesday afternoon in Pisa.
"It's just unbelievable. No, it's going to take a while before this really sinks in," reflected the
Lidl-Trek powerhouse in his post-stage interview afterwards, having held off the likes of
Joshua Tarling and
Ethan Hayter to take the stage win. "I'm so happy and overwhelmed with emotion. There are so many people I want to thank for this victory. I had set my sights on this time trial, but to actually win it? I never imagined that was possible."
A big benefit for Hoole was the timing of his ride. One of the earlier starters, the weather conditions only got worse and worse throughout the day, meaning the likes of
Primoz Roglic and
Juan Ayuso were hindered in their fight for the stage win by Mother Nature. "Of course, the rain made a big difference for the GC riders, but I beat Tarling under the same conditions…" Hoole assesses. "That really surprises me. He started incredibly fast, but I had a strong second half. Maybe he blew up? I just can't understand it."
