Mark Cavendish to race Tour of Turkey before season finale, trains with Chris Froome

Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome currently have a lot in common. Both in the late years of their career, the two Brits have recently trained together as they prepare to race for the first time since July.

Chris Froome, who had been preparing for the Tour de France, was ultimately not selected and ended up racing the Czech Tour in late July, abandoning during stage 4. He has not raced since, taking time off the bike, and getting ready to end his season - most likely at the Japan Cup, no other race has recently been mentioned to be on his schedule.

Recently however on a training ride he has met up with Mark Cavendish, fellow veteran and former teammate. Cavendish's career is currently on the brink, it is unknown whether the Manxman will want to prolong his stay in the pro peloton. He has that option, Alexandr Vinokourov and Astana Qazaqstan Team have openly said they would happily host the Manxman for another year, but the decision is not taken.

Cavendish announced during the Giro d'Italia that this would be the final season of his career, but then he went on to win a stage at the Giro and come close at the Tour de France. This, combined with his premature abandon from the race, may see him still look onto 2024 with a different set of eyes. Cavendish will be racing the Tour of Turkey now in October where he hopes to return to his winning ways.
