Former women's road race world champion, Lizzie Deignan could be set to return to action for the first time since the 2021 women's Tour of Britain, some sixteen months ago at either La Flèche Wallone Feminine or Liège-Bastogne-Liège Femmes.
Deignan put her professional career on hold at the end of 2021 following the birth of her second child but the Trek - Segafredo rider could be nearing a long-awaited return. "The field of champions is notably completed by Lizzie Deignan, returning to competition after giving birth to her second child," the race organisers of La Flèche Wallone Feminine announced. However Trek-Segafredo are reportedly unsure of the exact date of Deignan's return.
A former Paris-Roubaix Femmes winner and the 2015 world champion, Deignan was one of the top riders in the whole of the world tour peloton when at the peak of her powers. Whether or not the 34-year-old will be able to return to somewhere near her best after such a lengthy absence from racing remains to be seen however.
Following the birth of her first child in 2018, Deignan returned to action successfully at the Ardennes Classics of 2019 and will be hoping for something similar this time around.
