Koen Bouwman saw his leader
Primoz Roglic catch up a bit on Geraint Thomas. The difference between the two favorites for the overall victory in the
Giro d'Italia is now 26 seconds.
"I think it went well. In the end he took a few seconds," Bouwman told Eurosport. "It's going to be very exciting. Today Primoz rode impressively strong again, Thomas too. In any case, we will not give up, and certainly not Primoz either."
"That also applies to tomorrow, when it's only about whether you have the legs," Bouwman refers to the half-climbing time trial. "Hopefully Primoz has them and manages to take just enough time back." According to the Dutch climber, he does not have to tell Roglic about the climb. "He has run (on skis) into it a few times in the winter, so he knows it better than we do," says Bouwman about the terribly steep Monte Lussari.
A bike change by Roglic was a striking moment in the final of the nineteenth stage. “There was something wrong with his bike, but we had it under control. So we just played it safe," said Bouwman, who confirms that Roglic will do the time trial on that bike. "I think so. We have a new sponsorship with SRAM, which allows us to ride with a single front chainring. I don't know exactly what the bike will be like, but with a single front blade," Bouwman concludes.
