Remco Evenepoel chose to fearlessly attack in the seventeenth stage. At the foot of the penultimate climb, the Belgian was already alone and the peloton was getting closer. The classification men were allowed to decide who would win the stage.
"It is very strong, of course, but I haven't seen much of it," the mountain jersey leader wearer tells VTM News. "Jumbo-Visma is the only team that deserves to win this Vuelta. It doesn't matter who, but it would be very nice if it were with Kuss. Then they won a Grand Tour with three different riders this year. In any case, it will be very exciting between those three."
For Evenepoel himself he continued to collect mountain points. The Belgian soon learned that winning the stage would be difficult. "Kuss told me before the start of the stage that Jumbo-Visma wanted to control today and I immediately told the radio that I was purely going for the points on the first two climbs," he told Sporza.
But what can we expect tomorrow? Evenepoel makes no bones about it. "I expect the breakaway will make it tomorrow, but I might not even be on it. I think Jumbo will want it that way too. So tomorrow I'm going full throttle again. This will be followed by a day off and on Saturday I want to tackle it smartly from the group of the favorites."
