UAE Team Emirates's Mikkel Bjerg was a relatively early pacesetter with a time of 25.39. After spending quite a long while in the hot seat however, it was the 27-year-old American from the Movistar Team, Will Barta the edged quicker with his time of 25.34.
GC hopeful Gino Mader put in an impressive time, just missing out Barta's time by five seconds before fellow Movistar and United States rider
Matteo Jorgenson obliterated his teammates' time, taking the lead by 14 seconds.
Adam Yates come close but losing time towards the end, the British rider finished 12 seconds down on Jorgenson.
Finn Fisher-Black, Damiano Caruso and Max Poole all also rode solid time-trials that they would have been happy with, all three riders posting times that were within 25 seconds of Jorgenson's leading time.
No one was as impressive as Juan Ayuso however. The Spaniard who we remind you is racing for the first time since last year's Vuelta a Espana after a long battle with tendonitis. However you would never have guessed watching the 20-year-old today as he rode to a ridiculously good time of 25:15, taking the race lead.
