The anticipated showdown between
Jonas Vingegaard and Remco
Evenepoel at the Tour de Romandie won’t happen, as only Evenepoel will compete.
Vingegaard, absent since abandoning Paris-Nice last month, where teammate
Matteo Jorgenson claimed victory, won’t race again until the Critérium du
Dauphiné in June.
This week, Vingegaard conducted wind tunnel testing in
Aalborg to prepare for the Tour de France. “To prepare for the Tour,”
the Dane
explains on
Team Visma | Lease a Bike's website. “The focus was mainly on my position on the
bike. It’s important to work on that, we don’t want to leave anything to
chance.”
His recent injuries are fully behind him, “I no longer
suffer from my concussion or other ailments. It was a real shame that I
couldn't finish Paris-Nice and that I also had to skip the Tour of Catalonia.
But now I'm training again without any problems and I'm already looking forward
to a first altitude training camp.”
His team shared an update on social media, “I'm training
without any problems and will soon head to the altitude camp. I’m really
looking forward to racing again.” Vingegaard, the 2023 Dauphiné champion, will
face stiff competition at the upcoming race, with both Tadej Pogacar and
Evenepoel also competing. The two-time Tour de France winner is determined to
reclaim the yellow jersey from Pogacar, who secured his third Tour victory in
2024.
