Jumbo-Visma coach in an interview with In de Leiderstrui, Mathieu Heijboer, that decision was made solely by the Danish rider himself. "It was very difficult to control that course, so much so that we were actually one man short," Hejiboer explains. "Jonas then decided that he would not let all that work be for nothing and that he wanted to do his bit."
