"It was definitely not the plan for Jonas to do a lead-out for me again, but he did a fantastic job" - Christophe Laporte enjoying support from Tour de France winner Vingegaard

Maintaining his overall lead at the Critérium du Dauphiné, Christophe Laporte was unable to double-up with back-to-back stage wins. Nevertheless, a fourth-placed finish and another lead-out from Jonas Vingegaard mean it was still a successful day.

"The team did really well, just like in the opening stage,” Laporte revealed to the official website of the Jumbo-Visma team. “Unfortunately my legs were just not good enough to win at the end. It was a really tough stage. In the last five kilometres, it was full. It was definitely not the plan for Jonas to do a lead-out for me again, but he did a fantastic job again. Unfortunately, I couldn't reward the team today.”

Having the reigning Tour de France winner act as your lead-out man must be a special feeling for Laporte and shows the tight-knit team that Jumbo-Visma have built. With Vingegaard looking to prepare for his upcoming defence of the Maillot Jaune, his teamwork is admirable.

“That is of course very nice," says Laporte who as mentioned, retains the overall lead at the Critérium du Dauphiné. "It's always great when you're at the top of the leaderboard. Certainly the yellow leader's jersey has something special in France.”
