The cycling season is almost over. For many cyclists, the year ends this weekend at
Paris-Tours 2025. One of those who would wrap up the season was supposed to be
Jasper Philipsen. However, the
Alpecin-Deceuninck rider will not be able to say goodbye to the year from the saddle due to his fitness problems.
The news has been brought forward by
HLN. Jasper Philipsen will not ride the Paris-Tours, and thus concludes his current season on the road, where he last participated in the Binche - Chimay - Binche, a race he was unable to finish.
For the French classic, this casualty is very hard. Philipsen was presented as the great rival to beat in a race that will feature Matthew Brennan and Olav Kooij as the star sprinter duo of Visma | Lease a Bike, and other big names such as Arnaud de Lie or Corbin Strong.
Although it is no longer a World Tour race, the Paris-Tours still enjoys the prestige of being one of the most special and richest classics on the calendar. The fact that it is a "second division" means that there are not as many stars on the start list as you might expect (Jonathan Milan, Tim Merlier, Biniam Girmay...), but it still offers some very exciting editions.
Jasper Philipsen's 2025
As we can already speak of a concluded season for Jasper Philipsen, the level shown by the Alpecin-Deceuninck star can also be analyzed.
Jasper Philipsen will not race Paris-Tours 2025
Overall, it has not been the best year of Philipsen's career, no doubt. Abandonments like the one at the Tour de France have not let the Belgian rider shine as much as he would have hoped to. Even so, the top sprinter has achieved a total of 7 victories that bring his career total to 58, and at a very high level. These are all of them:
- Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne 2025
- Baloise Belgium Tour 2025, Stage 2
- Tour de France 2025, Stage 1
- Vuelta a Espana 2025, Stage 1, 8 & 19
- Sparkassen Münsterland Giro 2025
He was also 3rd in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, 11th in Paris-Roubaix, 2nd in the Scheldeprijs, 2nd in the Elfstedenronde, bronze medalist in the Belgian Road Championships, 4th in the Hamburg Classic and 3rd in the points classification of the Vuelta a España.
For a season haunted by crashes and illness, the outcome could've been worse. However the ambitious Belgian will not be satisfied with a season that, put in numbers, earned him just about half of his UCI points from 2023 and 2024. The candidate for the title of 'Sprinter king' is sure to come back stronger in 2026.
