Jason Tesson has taken victory at La Roue Tourangelle 2024 from a bunch sprint, on a day marred by a mass crash within the peloton.
After five riders went clear in the initial attack of the day, three were still out front with just over 40km to go, when disaster struck in the peloton. A mass crash saw almost the entire bunch hit the deck, with the incident so bad, the race was neutralised momentarily as riders picked themselves up and doctors carried out medical checks.
Once the racing restarted, the peloton began had a big task to reel back the three leaders. With just over 15km to go though, the catch was finally completed. Despite repeated attacks, a relatively full peloton headed into the final 5km together.
With a bunch sprint then the decider on the day, in the end it was TotalEnergies' Jason Tesson who powered to victory ahead of Gerben Thijssen and Jenthe Biermans.
