Jacopo Mosca out of competition with mononucleosis

Trek - Segafredo's Jacopo Mosca has announced that he's gotten mononucleosis and is currently out of competition for an undefined period of time.

The 28-year old found out very recently that he's been infected with a virus that has seen the likes of Mark Cavendish, Fausto Masnada and Chloe Dygert as examples over the last few years. Recovery time varies from person to person. Mosca has just completed the Giro d'Italia in support of breakthrough climber Juan Pedro Lopéz, but has abandoned this past week's La Route d'Occitanie after his disagnosis.

In modest English, the Italian rider said on social media: "I'm stop again one more time. After an hard Giro, with a bad feeling almost every day, I discovered to get recently a mononucleosis. I try to go over but my body said NO".

He completed the post by saying that "there is no different solution than rest and watching Elisa Longo Borghini [his partner] racing in the Nationals next week." There is no expected recovery time for Mosca, however with his contract renewed into 2023 the Italian can sigh of relief that he will not be pressured into speeding his recovery.
