"I've always been quite cooked and not motivated at the end of the season" - Is Matteo Jorgenson's form a game-changer for Visma in Italian monument

Matteo Jorgenson is hoping to have his moment in the sun on Saturday after playing the perfect teammate for both Visma and USA in recent weeks. The American rider is one of the team's key riders as they take on Il Lombardia with several contenders fancying their chances.
Without Tadej Pogacar at the startline, Remco Evenepoel, Paul Seixas and Isaac del Toro are the big name favourites in a stacked field for the final monument of the year. For Visma, they come as slight outsiders but with a strong team led by Jorgenson and Davide Piganzoli.
For Jorgenson, he arrives in likely the best form he's had all season. At the World Championships two weeks ago, his masterful teammate performance saw him match rolling attacks in the group of favourites and help Brandon McNulty hold his gap over the field on the way to the rainbow jersey.
A week later, Jorgenson was doing the same thing but for Piganzoli as he matched Tom Pidcock and Ben Healy's pursuit of the Italian at Giro dell'Emilia.

Jorgenson on his good form

At Tre Valli Varesine this week, he was also in the heat of battle with Tom Pidcock and Jarno Widar, losing out in a sprint between the three riders. Now, he hopes that he can turn his selfless performances into the ultimate victory.
Speaking ahead of the classic, Jorgenson opened up on his form and motivation, noting that he hasn't had such a rich vein of form in the last weeks of the season before as he hopes to cash in.
"I've never had such a good Lombardia," Jorgenson admitted in an interview with Cycling Pro Net.
"I've always been quite cooked and not motivated at the end of the season, but this year is feeling a bit different. And so I'm hopeful that it can go better."

Visma rider hopes for open race

A powerful climber, Jorgenson knows that the route design favours his credentials as he revealed his desire for the race to open up early as he thrives in the attritional affairs.
"I think arriving in Como is a bit nicer, and I think finishing on San Fermo is better suited to me. It's just a matter of getting there first.
"I think it would be nice if the race opened up early for me. But yeah, I think we'll just have to see either option. There's a lot of things that can happen between here and Como."
