Tadej Pogacar at the 2026 Tour de Suisse
On this week's CyclingUpToDate Podcast, Tadej Pogacar has been a topic of discussion. Most notably, where his 2027 season will begin. Below, you will find the results of the polls set up on where our readers believe, and where they wish Pogacar would begin the upcoming year.
At the European Championships, Tadej Pogacar was present at his home roads in Slovenia, and has shared some interesting insight into the upcoming months.
After having suffered season-ending injuries at the Vuelta a España - a concussion, vertebra and collarbone fractures - the Slovenian revealed he should begin his training for the 2027 season a month earlier:
"I’ve taken some time for myself and am already slowly looking ahead to 2027. I might be able to rest a bit longer, but that means I’ll have to start working sooner, a month earlier in fact".
This statement almost fully coincided with the reveal of the 2027 UCI calendar, which featured several new and returning events in the month of January - in addition to those that are already in existence.

Pogacar gets to choose a new destination

On this Monday's episode of the CyclingUpToDate Podcast, Rúben Silva and Gavin Quinn have speculated on where Pogacar might begin his year - theorizing that it might happen in January, due to the extended winter training period.
Several options were put on the table: The World Tour's Tour Down Under and Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in Australia; The AlUla Tour and the Mallorca classics as the more traditional options...
Whereas on the opposite side of the spectrum, Pogacar could take part in the newly-created Vuelta a Canarias or Mexico Tour; the returning Tour Colombia or the Pune Grand Tour, India's new UCI race created in 2026 to make way for the 2032 World Championships.
In that publication, CyclingUpToDate has created a poll in which it was possible for our readers to vote on which race they believe Pogacar will begin his season; and which race they would wish he begins his season at.

Pogacar to race Tour Down Under?

With overwhelming dominance, the voters believe that from these, Tadej Pogacar is very likely to begin his season at the Tour Down Under. Both Silva and Quinn argued the same, with the World Tour status and summer weather providing strong reasons for the former World Champion to make the trip to Australia in January.
68 out of the 106 votes have fallen towards the Tour Down Under, a 64% percentage. This was followed by the Mexico Tour - which is widely believed to coincide with the Tour Down Under, the Vuelta a Canarias, the Pune Grand Tour... The AlUla Tour only got 2 votes whilst the Tour Colombia was the only race to not feature a single vote.
However, on the poll in which the readers were asked to express the race in which they wish Pogacar takes part in, the results are different. Out of the 63 votes, only 50% fell for the Tour Down Under. Notably, the Pune Grand Tour had 11 votes, 17%. A larger portion of our audience would enjoy seeing Pogacar race in India next January - something which may happen at some point in the future as the Asian nation secured a World Championships edition.
The Vuelta a Canarias had a 12% result, the Mexico Tour had 11%, whilst the AlUla Tour only received 1 vote and the Tour Colombia proved to be the least popular choice.
