Cat Ferguson is a massive talent and in the women's field she has very quickly left a mark in the peloton in 2024. She is now the double World Champion having won both junior women's title in Zurich and has won her first pro races with Movistar as an elite at the age of 18.
“To me, I’m just a bike rider. It’s lovely that they’re saying those things about me, but I almost don’t believe it myself," Ferguson told CyclingWeekly. Her talent justifies the signing and expectations. After the world she won Binche - Chimay - Binche among strong Women's World Tour riders. Her incredibly young age does not prevent her from already being a winner at the very top level of cycling.
But it was in Zurich, won a hilly circuit, that she took one very special win: “I just remember crossing the finish line and putting my arms up in the air. I think that memory will stay with me forever. It’s special to win a World Champs, but to win one and then see my mum and dad, who have been there with me from the start of my cycling career. I’m incredibly grateful to them.” She is now on a three-year deal with Movistar where she will likely become a leader in the future.
However, the advice given to her and one she takes herself is to take it as slow as possible, because longevity in the sport can become quite an issue. “I think it’s really important to remember that I’m only 18. I’ve won a professional race, even if it was a smaller one, but I think as a priority, I want to have success as an elite, not just when I’m a junior. I want to take it slow and do everything right in order to make that happen.”
