Joseph Blackmore has long been highlighted as a potential star of the future for British Cycling, and in his debut Grand Tour at the 2025
Tour de France, the British youngster showed signs of his high ceiling with a strong breakaway performance on stage 10. Although the stage win didn't come, Blackmore secured an impressive finish.
Coming home in 6th, Blackmore battled well throughout the stage against his breakaway rivals such as Simon Yates, Ben Healy and Ben O'Connor among others. “It was a pretty cool day – but one of the hardest of my career,” reflected the 22-year-old former Tour de l'Avenir winner in
a post-stage press release on the official website of the Israel - Premier Tech team. "The last 15km of it were on my own, and I was just suffering."
Given the stage win was gone with Simon Yates sailing away on the final climb, and he was left all alone, Blackmore's personal challenge became to reach the finish line before the Maillot Jaune group, something he managed by just under a minute. "I knew what place I was going for and, yeah, I’m pretty happy to achieve it,” Blackmore concludes his assessment of the day. “I just kept on fighting.”
