After his stunning victory at the
Amstel Gold Race last weekend,
Tom Pidcock will look to make it an Ardennes double later this afternoon as he and the rest of the peloton tackle
La Fleche Wallonne.
"I don't know if it's fully sunken in yet," Pidcock reflects on his triumph in the Netherlands last Sunday in a pre-race interview at La Fleche Wallonne. "It's always difficult (to celebrate ed.) when you've got a race a few days later but yeah, these races come as a three, you know that when you start so there are more races on the programme this week."
With the two main favourites for the upcoming Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Mathieu van der Poel and Tadej Pogacar, both absent, there is another good chance for Pidcock to prove himself the strongest in the field and build up further confidence ahead of next weekend.
"I feel good. I recovered really well. I actually had two easy days and I was getting a bit restless so it's nice to be doing some exercise properly again today," Pidcock continues. "I've never really got it right here. I didn't recover from Amstel last year but this time I think I'm in a different place and yeah, it's a tricky one here, it's tactical. I think there's a lot of guys who can go really fast to the top of the hill. It definitely suits me but I've never really got it right."
