Remy Rochas, the 28-year-old Groupama-FDJ rider, spoke to CyclingUpToDate ahead of the opening stage of the Gran Camiño, and he seemed to be in a confident mood pre-race.
With Groupama-FDJ not fielding a full strength squad, with a mix of WorldTour and continental riders, Rochas acknowledged the challenge but also highlighted the potential of his teammates.
"We come here with a mix from the continental team and the WorldTour. I think there’s some really good guys coming from the continental team. And yeah, unfortunately we lost Matthew overnight as he was sick."
Rochas has already shown good form in 2025, finishing eighth at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race earlier this season.
With defending champion Jonas Vingegaard absent, the field at O Gran Camiño is wide open, offering an opportunity for a new name to take victory. Rochas is clear about his ambitions.
"Yeah, I came here with a lot of ambition and the team as well. My shape is pretty good, I hope for a very big result here and why not get my first win."
When asked about the riders to watch, Rochas pointed to Derek Gee, among others, as strong contenders. But will it be Gee, or someone else that gets the win? And can Rochas scratch off his first win of 2025?
