PREVIEW | O Gran Camiño 2025 - Without Vingegaard, can Movistar take the win?

One of Spain's most recently created races, O Gran Camiño, has had very reputable winners in recent years and the 2025 throws up some surprises. The Galician race will start in Portugal, and take place from the 26th February to the 2nd of March. We preview the race ahead.
The inaugural stage of O Gran Camiño will be held in Portugal. The 189-kilometer long stage will start in Maia and finish in Matosinhos. Emblematic places such as Barcelos and Ponte de Lima will be crossed, before reaching the finish line, where the stage will be decided in a sprint with certainty.
The second stage of O Gran Camiño will already take place already in Galicia. Here the fight for the general classification will break out. It will be the first mountain stage, with two 3rd category gates: San Antoniño, which will be climbed at the beginning of the day, and San Vicenzo, which will be climbed twice before the finish in A Estrada.
Stage 3 of the race will be a 15.6 km time trial in Ourense. It will not be flat, as halfway through the race the riders will be challenged by the Alto de Sabadelle (4.9Km; 5.7%). Therefore, this individual time trial will also be key for the fight for the overall classification.
The queen stage of O Gran Camiño 2025 will be the 4th day, with a tough finish in the mythical mountain pass of O Cebreiro. The day will include 3,100 meters of elevation gain, with other iconic climbs such as A Pitinidoira. 137 difficult kilometers that will continue to test the GC men and faour the climbers like no other day.
The general classification will be decided on the last day of the race, with another very demanding stage of 166.5 km. There will be two climbs to the Alto de Lampai, and three 'sterrato' sections before the finish in Santiago de Compostela.

- if there is an actual weakness in wout even when completely healthy, it’s that he’s in his head too often. this has been pointed out many times by much more acute observers of cycling than ME, certainly. it may be that he’s been like this since he was a little kid. we are who we are. or that he was shaped by having faced van der poel SOOO many times. mvdp has zero second thoughts. he wastes no time at all on doubt. that has, in the past, led him to do some pretty insane things and make mistakes that wout would never have committed. but it also makes him a killer. you can see wout’s split seconds of doubt and hesitation everywhere in their head to head battles. those hesitations spill over into other races at times like dwars, when doubt creeps in. i believe that currently he is still coming back from physical problems due to injuries, but even when he’s full strength the mental game is an area of potential concern, AND potential improvement.OCexile03-04-2025
