Primoz Roglic spent two and a half months away from competition but few would tell. The Jumbo-Visma rider has comfortably won the Vuelta a Burgos winning both mountain stages and holding off the attacks of Adam Yates.
"I'm glad I was able to finish it this way," Roglic said at the end of today's summit finish at Lagunas de Neila. "Despite it being another hot day, I felt good. As a team we always had the stage under control." The Slovenian typically needs to racing to achieve good form and that was once again the case. In the final summit finish UAE pushed the pace once again, but the moves of Adam Yates were not enough to dislodge him. The Slovenian rode to the win, not even celebrating as he crossed the line - seemingly a win which was not overly difficult.
As he gears up to the Vuelta a Espana Roglic looks firm and in the right path. "In the end it was up to me to make the ultimate effort. It was a pleasure to race here," he says of the Spanish race. "The spectators along the way were fantastic. In addition, it was good to have some competition kilometers in the legs towards the Vuelta this week. I came here to get that little bit better and I think I succeeded.”
“The main goal was to take the last steps towards the Vuelta a España this week and we succeeded. The temperatures, the course and the way of racing are comparable to what will follow later," team DS Marc Reef said. "The riders who will contest the Vuelta have also shown that they are ready. Jan Tratnik has had a long rehabilitation, but he showed a very high level here. We win the team time trial, two stages and the final classification. We can only be satisfied with that."
