32 year old Bob Jungels is looking forward to his new challenge in 2025, as he leaves Red - Bull - Bora - hansgrohe to join the INEOS Grenadiers. Jungels, who has won stages at the Tour and the Vuelta, as well as winning Liege-Bastoigne-Liege in 2018, aims to get back to winning ways in 2025.
Jungels has been going through a dry spell in terms of wins, as he has not won a race since stage 9 of the 2022 Tour de France. The rider from Luxembourg is hoping to change this next year, as he told Daniel Benson.
“I am incredibly excited about the opportunity at INEOS,” he said. “The camp was fantastic, and I felt welcome straight away. The introduction to the group went quickly, and I already know most of the guys my age. For me, it is a privilege to work in a team where structure is key. It fits in well with my vision of how a team should function.”
Jungels was keen to address the ongoing problems at INEOS, but believes the team can bounce back, “It's not always uphill in a rider's career, and it's the same for a team. These are interesting times in cycling, with riders like Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogačar and maybe Primož Roglič dominating the Grand Tours.
“Stage races have been part of Sky and INEOS' DNA from the beginning, so it's a big opportunity for us to prove that we can switch gears and show a different style of racing that could lead to more victories.
“My main goal in 2025 is to find my winning form again,” he continued. “This season I rode all the races with Primož and always did what was expected of me, but it was hard to really break out of that cocoon. I like the role of road captain and using my experience, but I have to say that it didn't give me enough satisfaction personally. It was a great experience and we had a fantastic atmosphere in the team, but I believe that with INEOS I will get my last chance for real victories.”
