Things are going from bad to worse for
Primoz Roglic at the
2025 Giro d’Italia. Already over two minutes down on race leader Isaac Del Toro
following a nightmare gravel stage on Sunday, the Slovenian has suffered
another setback, this time during the recon of today’s crucial time trial.
Roglic crashed during his morning reconnaissance of the
28.1-kilometre route from Lucca to Pisa, sliding out on a right-hand bend made
treacherous by rain. The asphalt was reportedly soaking wet and dangerously
slick in sections. He remounted and completed the recon, but questions now hang
over how much damage he sustained.
The former Olympic time trial champion was expected to claw back
some of his GC deficit today. Now, it’s unclear whether the crash will impact
his performance, either physically or mentally, as he tries to limit further
losses. He is scheduled to start his effort at 16:13 local time.
This latest incident only deepens the growing sense of
misfortune that seems to follow Roglic at the Giro. Can he turn this disaster
around?
