"I think it's good news for everybody and for all of cycling" - Soudal - Quick-Step DS happy that merger is set to be called off

Soudal - Quick-Step and Jumbo-Visma will most likely not merge, unlike the signs of past weeks had been hinting. The DS of the Belgian team Davide Bramati is happy with the situation, and that he will not have to worry about finding a new job.

"The news was going round during the director's meeting. I haven’t read anything about it yet. But for sure if it's true, I think it's good news for everybody and for all of cycling," Davide Bramati told Bici.pro. The Italian is in the car leading Soudal - Quick-Step during today's Il Lombardia, and hopes to continue in coming years. This was in threat as the team was for several weeks in difficulty of staying upright, with the merger with Jumbo-Visma looking likely.

It had been rumoured that a second team could be created that would take in riders and staff from the current Quick-Step structure. However, that didn't pass from rumours, and now seemingly that will also not be necessary. Hence Bramati was happy at the start today in Italy where he hopes to see the team perform.

With Remco Evenepoel and an in-form Ilan van Wilder leading the ambitions, the team has very real ambitions to be in the final podium. "We'll see. The legs are what they are and it’s a tough course. But it's not just about Remco for us – we've got a good team here all round and we'll see what we can do," he concluded.
