Team Visma | Lease a Bike had a very busy day at Tirreno-Adriatico yesterday, with it's riders not managing to perform as strongly as expected. Jonas Vingegaard gave his opinion on his performance on the day and also the team's new time-trial helmet.
"To be honest I think I did a good time-trial so I'm happy with my performance. I'm happy with what we did," Vingegaard told Cyclingpro.net this morning. Despite the decent time, he lost 22 seconds to Juan Ayuso who suddenly surged to a strong position when it comes to the race's overall victory. Vingegaard save his bullets however regarding his rival's performance: "He did a very good time-trial beating Ganna, that's not easy. If you do that then you deserve to win."
The Dane rode a new time-trial helmet that in the morning of the race flipped heads. The Tour de France champion was asked several times about the new piece of equipment that blasted through social media like no other topic this week, and has this to say: "It's a very good helmet I think it's very fast. We worked on it a lot the last year and it's a very fast helmet so I'm very happy with it.
Teammate Attila Valter suggested that he did not care about the looks of the helmet, but it's performance. Vingegaard is of the same opinion, and believes that we will be seeing it more and more in coming years. "It's different of course but it's very fast and I think it will be the future," he admits. "It feels even more comfortable than other time-trial helmets that I've tried..."
This will soon be banned, it's as wide as most rider's shoulders, this changes the airfoil of the human body, it's cheating plain and simple.
It gives performance and it is comfortable to use are the only two metrics that matter. Rest are just a waste of time and effort
People always end up getting used to stuff they can’t accept initially. Cars and fashion are perfect examples proving this over and over again. Some of the most hideous designs of yesterday pass completely inconspicuously today (a few were even ahead of their time), some of the typical beloved designs of the past are too ugly to rebecome fashionable today. If what we like and want today is so great, how come nobody asked or thought of it years ago?
