“I still have to race a little smarter every now and then” - Hugo Page on the next steps of his development

Having taken the first victory of his career on the final stage of last year’s Tour du Limousin, 22-year-old Hugo Page is now looking to take the next step in his development this season, as he is set to ride the Tour de France for the first time in his career later in the year. He is also expected to ride the first Monument of his career later this month at the Ronde van Vlaanderen, as well as Paris-Roubaix in April.

The Frenchman is aware that he still has a lot of room for development as a rider, as he said in an interview with WielerFlits that “I still have a lot to learn, but you do that by riding races. I still have to race a little smarter every now and then. I always put a lot of energy into a match”.

Page also admitted that he has to develop mentally as well, as he went on to say “actually, I have to learn to control my temper. That’s the most important thing this year. Only I like to attack. That’s the best part, isn’t it? I’m still missing some content, but I’m only 22 years old. Give me two or three more years”.

The Intermarché-Wanty rider’s form is also developing, as he stated “I see a big evolution when I look at my exercise data and compare it with a year ago. My one minute, five minute and twenty minute tests are all significantly better than last year. That's why I'm looking forward to this season. The team gives me a lot of confidence by guaranteeing my selection for the Tour de France in the winter and all the top classics with Biniam Girmay”.

Page is set to ride the Grand Prix de Denain, E3 Saxo Classic and Gent-Wevelgem ahead of the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix, with the Critérium du Dauphiné also featuring on his schedule before he heads to the Tour de France this summer.
