Making her long-awaited return to the women's World Tour peloton Chloe Dygert came so close to surprising the sprinters with a late attack on stage 2 of La Vuelta Femenina. Although she had to settle for 3rd she is still upbeat.
“Although I must not forget where I am today. I can also consider this as a victory," said the 26-year-old American rider from Canyon//SRAM Racing on her team's official website. "I am so grateful for the support from the team. I knew I had to make it a long sprint. I am not really a sprinter. A long sprint was my best option, I just started a little too early.”
With another relatively flat day's racing on today's third stage, Dygert, who last raced competitively on the road at the 2022 edition of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, is enjoying being back in the team environment once again and if this early form is any sign of what is to come, good things are on the way for the former world time-trial champion.
“We are together with this group for the first time," she says. "We have a lot of trust in each other and from now on things will run even better. I look forward to being part of this process.”
