Thibaut Pinot is in his final season as a pro cyclist but has not lost the hunger to win. At the Tour du Jura today he had another opportunity, and came close to a triumph as he finished second to Kévin Vauquelin.
"Our youngsters did an amazing job again, especially Lorenzo Germani, so I wanted to finish the job for them, but I'm missing a tiny bit to win. I'm still happy in the end," Pinot said in a post-race interview. After finishing fifth at the Tour du Doubs the previous day, the French climber wanted to turn it up a notch in the even tougher finale that was found in the second of the French classics.
In the final climb he looked sharp once again, but his level was not enough to take the win. He finished a strong and convincing second place but the Arkéa Samsic rider was unbeatable on the day. "I am rather reassured about my condition," the veteran comments however. As he builds up to the Giro d'Italia where he hopes to take a final win in his career in a race that means a lot to him, the form is coming along nicely.
"I am present, and just the fact of being present in these races is important. There are a lot of positives on this day. We must not forget that the objective, it's the Giro d'Italia in three weeks, so I hope to get stronger over the weeks. It shows that I'm not just here to take pictures and sign autographs. winning races is what matters to me this year," he concluded.
