Pogačar and Ciccone had their work cut out here 😅 Wout van Aert and Jonas Vingegaard are hard to follow when they're in beast mode 🥵💪️ ______________ 🇫🇷 #TDF2023
Jonas Vingegaard will be looking for a third straight Tour de France title in 2024. Following the reveal of the profiles and routes however, one stage in particular concerns the Scandinavian media.
"I am completely convinced that he is already terrified of the ninth stage, which contains no less than 14 gravel sectors," analyses TV 2's cycling expert Magnus Drivenes of the Dane's hopes of a Maillot Jaune hattrick. "They were in the same area in the women's Tour last year, when there was a lot of drama."
With Vingegaard currently leading the epic Tour de France dual he's in with Tadej Pogacar by two victories to the Slovenian's one in the Tours they've competed against each other, Drivenes thinks overall, this year's profile could help Vingegaard despite the stage 9 concerns and the added rival in former teammate, Primoz Roglic.
"The course suits Jonas Vingegaard perfectly - in fact even better than this year's, which he won by a landslide," says Drivenes. "It is also an advantage for Vingegaard that there is a lot of time-trialling in next year's Tour. Admittedly, he has only beaten Roglic in time-trials twice. Still, Vingegaard's time-trial performance in this year's race was one of the most ridiculous demonstrations of power I've ever seen."
