After a solid opening to his
Tirreno-Adriatico campaign in the individual time-trial on Monday,
Jonas Vingegaard kept safely in the peloton on stage 2, keeping himself well in the mix for the general classification.
"The team did a fantastic job to keep me out of trouble today," reflected Vingegaard, the runner-up at Tirreno-Adriatico back in 2022, in his post-stage interview with the official website of his Team Visma | Lease a Bike team. "The succession of corners in the final kilometres made it a bit hectic. So I'm glad I got through today unscathed."
Actually moving up from 9th to 8th in the general classification, Vingegaard sits 22 seconds down on the overall race leader,
Juan Ayuso of UAE Team Emirates.
With the longest stage of the race upcoming on Wednesday, a 225km ride from Volterra to Gualdo Tadino it's unlikely the general classification will completely explode although the chance will be there for time gaps if the likes of Vingegaard intend to be attacking.
