The Giro d'Italia route for the 2025 edition was initially planned to be revealed on the 12th of November but organizational issues - likely related to the start in Albania - have led to a two-month postpone. However, the race is working hard to attract big stars and might be having some success, whilst others are reported to have made the decision already.
Gazzetta dello Sport this Sunday have reported that Egan Bernal will be aiming for the Corsa Rosa next season. The Colombian won the 2021 edition, months before he had his life-threatening crash in Colombia that marked a key moment in his career. Since his return, he raced the Tour de France and Vuelta a España in 2023 and in 2024 he returned to a very competitive level.
The INEOS Grenadiers rider was third at O Gran Camiño only behind Jonas Vingegaard and Lenny Martínez, was seventh at Paris-Nice and then finished again on the podium of the Volta a Catalunya only behind Tadej Pogacar and Mikel Landa. It is safe to say the Colombian has returned to his best level - only the climbing performances have improved significantly overall over the past three years. Bernal was also fourth at the Tour de Suisse, but struggled at the Tour de France where Carlos Rodríguez ultimately led the team's overall classification ambitions.
Bernal has talked widely about aiming for the Vuelta a España as it's the only Grand Tour he has left to win, but it likely will not be the only Grand Tour in his schedule next year. From Italy we hear that he will race the Giro d'Italia and may be joined by Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic whom the organization is trying to convince to be part of as well.
According to today's Gazzetta (Scognamiglio), Egan Bernal will lead INEOS at the #Giro2025, aiming to return to his 2022 form. Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic are "seriously considering" participation, while Tadej Pogacar's decision is still pending
