After a successful winter in cyclocross, Thibau Nys is eagerly anticipating his return to road racing next month at the Tour de Romandie.
Despite recently spending some time training alongside Rainbow Jersey-wearing duo Remco Evenepoel and Mathieu van der Poel however, the Belgian prospect to keen to ease his expectations on the road and as such, has pulled back from his plans to make a Grand Tour debut later this year.
“For me it is not necessary," Nys explained in conversation with HLN from the Lidl-Trek team's altitude training camp in Calpe. "If I do it, then only on the condition that I am 100% ready, can help the team and perhaps achieve a result here and there myself. Not just 'to learn.'”
After an eleven-week break from racing, Nys will as mentioned, return to the fray next month at the Tour de Romandie. Following that, the 21-year-old will take on races such as Eschborn-Frankfurt, Tour de Hongrie and Tour of Norway before the Baloise Belgium Tour and Belgian National Championships in a near-exact replica of his 2023 season.
