Remco Evenepoel started his pro career at Soudal - Quick-Step and throughout the entirity of his career thus far he was with the Belgian team, but this will change this winter. At the end of Il Lombardia Evenepoel closed his time with the team with another stellar performance, with his wife Oumi also at the finish in Bergamo.
"They were seven wonderful years; we truly grew up here. It feels like a family; we started when we were 19, and now we're seven years later, young adults," she said in words to VTM Nieuws following Il Lombardia. This is a race that in the past has brought issues to Evenepoel, mainly with his 2020 crash threatening to put an end to his career after he fell down a ravine.
This year he finished second only behind an unbeatable Tadej Pogacar, as had happened at the World and European Championships. Quick-Step protected him with all possible weapons until the very last race despite the news of his departure being public since early August.
"I might even say. We're incredibly grateful, too. There were some very low points, but also some very good moments. We definitely look back on it positively; it's a wonderful chapter that we can close today."
Moving to Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe
The double Olympic Champion will be moving to Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, a new step and first team change as a pro. However, there is potential for improval but specially for a stronger support team for the Grand Tours.
In December, we should see the Belgian training with his new team for the first time in Spain. "It's exciting, every new step is. That's the case for everyone. We hope it was the right decision, but I'm sure it was the right decision at the right time. Every new step brings new challenges".
