Movistar Team's Emma Norsgaard has talked about her ambitions for the coming season and has revealed that the upcoming Paris-Roubaix Femmes is her biggest goal, as she is preparing to make a transition from sprinter to a more complete rider.
“The biggest goal this year is Paris-Roubaix. Last year I fell completely in love with this race. I was so scared on the startline and when I crossed the finish line I was like “Wow!” I want to win this race. I need to win this race," she said on an interview with the GCN Eurosport Cycling Show. The race's first edition last year proved chaotic, with the rainy October weather causing havoc in both races. Whilst Lizzie Deignan won the race, Norsgaard went on to finish an impressive sixth place.
With a week to go to the race's second edition, the Dane has her eyes on the prize. She has only raced Belgian classics so far this year with strong results, winning Le Samyn, finishing second at Omloop van het Hageland, fifth at Gent-Wevelgem, sixth at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Brugge-De Panne, and this past weekend 13th at the Tour des Flandres.
“There’s many races I want to win, but this one I just cannot stop thinking about it. When I’m on my bike training every day, in the cold and wind. I can’t wait for Paris-Roubaix... I’m a pure sprinter, but I hope that I can prove to people this season that I’m more than just a sprinter," she concluded.
