A familiar name to cycling fans over the past decade and a half, Edvald Boasson Hagen had been struggling to secure himself a contract after leaving TotalEnergies at the end of the 2023 season. Now, finally, it seems those worries have come to an end.
According to reports by Landevei.no, the vastly experienced, 36-year-old Norwegian is nearing a move to the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team. This move works well for Boasson Hagen in multiple ways, keeping him in a French-based team following his TotalEnergies departure and more importantly, keeping his professional career alive.
Although, as mentioned, Boasson Hagen is a relatively big name in the peloton having won three Tour de France stages during his career and having been a constant figure in the World Tour peloton since his debut Grand Tour at the 2009 Giro d'Italia, the Norwegian has struggled to secure a contract for 2024.
Rumours first circulated about a move to the Norwegian-based Uno-X Mobility although that never materialised and there was even talk about a potential return to the INEOS Grenadiers, having ridden for the British-based team under their former guise, Team Sky, between 2010 and 2014. Finally though, after much stress and uncertainty, it seems Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team will be the saviours of Boasson Hagen's professional career.
