According to Cyclism'Actu, we're up to a busy end of November. On November 30, we will know if Lille, the North and Hauts-de-France will host the Grand Départ of the 2025 Tour de France. And three days before, on November 27, AG2R La Mondiale will hold its press conference in Lille to undoubtedly and surely formalize the arrival of Decathlon at its side.
The AG2R Citroën team will part ways with both, the team sponsor Citroën and frame manufacturer BMC at the end of the year after three years of partnership, with Belgian Greg Van Avermaet, who brought BMC back to the French team, opting for retirement.
It is the Van Rysel bicycle brand - Decathlon's bicycle brand - which will take over for the 2024 season. Initially, it was Van Rysel which was to appear on the jerseys of the French team led by Vincent Lavenu, but Van Rysel is already title partner of the Roubaix-Lille-Métropole cycling team.
With the International Cyclist Union (UCI) formally prohibiting the same brand from being in the naming of two professional cycling structures, Décathlon would therefore join forces with AG2R La Mondiale from 2024. Décathlon is used to rolling its bikes at highest level of sport by French teams. AG2R La Mondiale has raced on Decathlon's Penta and Btwin bikes in previous years and Cofidis has also raced on Decathlon bikes in the past.
