Daniel Martínez was one of the stars this week in Colombia, where he won the time-trial World Championships. In the road race he didn't manage to be in the spotlight, but at the finish line he shared details on what to expect over the coming months.
“After the national championships I will return to Europe. On the calendar I have the Vuelta Murcia, the Clasica de Almeria, the Volta ao Algarve and then I will be in Italy to do the Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico and the Giro d'Italia," Martínez shared with Ciclismo Internacional. The 27-year old has a clear plan outlined for the spring and will have the freedom to chase results of his own at the Corsa Rosa - where he will co-lead alongside Lennard Kämna.
With Sam Weslsford and Danny van Poppel in the lineup, the German team will share ambitions between the flats and the mountains. In the past, Martínez has performed greatly in the one-week stage-races, but has not yet had a breakthrough in a Grand Tour - in terms of overall classification, although he finished on the Top5 at the 2021 Giro.

However after a busy spring and preparation towards the Giro, Martínez does not aim to have much time resting. “Yes, I hope to have the chance to also do the Tour de France," he shares. There, he would in theory have a supporting role for Primoz Roglic, alongside other very talented climbers such as Jai Hindley and Aleksandr Vlasov.
