"That's where the cycling is" - New Colombian champion Alejandro Osorio plans to return to Europe after beating Bernal and Higuita

Alejandro Osorio surprised the favorites to take gold at the Colombian national championships. The GW Erco Shimano rider was the only survivor of the breakaway who was able to withstand the attacks and, by only four seconds, won the race ahead of favorites Sergio Higuita and Egan Bernal.

"I like to race in Europe, clearly that's where the cycling is. I don't detract from Colombian cycling, but that's the way it is," he said in a post-race interview. The 25-year old Colombian was signed by Bahrain - Victorious in 2022, but was let go after only two months after multiple breaches of Covid-19 guidelines. This Sunday, he jumped back into the spotlight with a career-changing performance.

"I would like to go back. Here UCI is only in these Nationals and the Tour Colombia and I changed all my preparation for these two races because I told myself that they were my two main goals. I haven't stopped thinking about this since November," he told RCN.

Osorio, 25, rode 2 years at Caja Rural - Seguros RGA between 2020 and 2021 and a few months at Bahrain Victorious in 2022 before returning to Colombian soil. Now it seems that he wants to return to Europe. There is no doubt that his success in the nationals can help him.
