Biniam Girmay sprinted to third place last afternoon at
Tirreno-Adriatico, but a large swerve in the final meters saw him be relegated. The
Intermarché - Wanty sprinter was unhappy with that decision, but looks to improve the result further today.
Girmay was the best of the rest yesterday after Jasper Philipsen and Tim Merlier. Third on the road, but his irregular move during the final sprint against Axel Zingle saw him be relegated and lose the result. "I don't have any comment about this, it can happen in the sprint, for me nothing can change," he concludes.
Although results-wise it does not make much of a difference for the Eritrean sprinter, the team will not be happy with the loss of 30 UCI points, in the midst of an ongoing battle. Nevertheless, Girmay is in form and motivated, and finds today's uphill finale in Gualdo Tadino quite fitting to his skillset.
"Today I think is much more of an opportunity for me than yesterday, today I'm looking to do a better result," he adds. A rider who can climb explosive hilltops in his best form, he could be a very dangerous figure as many pure sprinters are expected to struggle today. The 23-year old can take advantage of it and take his second win of the season today in Italy.
