Arnaud De Lie new Belgian road champion! Dylan Groenewegen, Alberto Bettiol and Marco Brenner among new national champions

Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Ireland are some more of the nations with their men's elite road race national championships finished. In Belgium the big news was of the winner Arnaud De Lie who took a massive win ahead of the Tour de France.

The Belgian race ended in a sprint, with a field worthy of the Tour de France or even more! The explosive race finished in a sprint where Arnaud De Lie took perhaps the biggest victory of his career. Jasper Philipsen and Jordi Meeus completed the podium but they were followed by cyclocross stars Thibau Nys, Wout van Aert and Tim Merlier.

In Italy, Alberto Bettiol had one of his best days of the season to take an impressive solo victory for EF Education - EasyPost - one of many on the day. Lorenzo Rota and Edoardo Zambanini were second and third in the hilly race.

In the Netherlands it was a sprint deciding the race, and Dylan Groenewegen once again managed to win the nationals! The Team Jayco AlUla rider beat Olav Kooij to the title, whilst soon-to-be-retired Ramon Sinkeldam rode to a strong third place.

In Germany there was a surprise. BORA - hansgrohe had the numbers and quality but were beaten. Marco Brenner and Florian Lipowitz dealt the winning attack but the Tudor rider blasted off to take a massive victory for himself. Kim Heiduk finished third to complete the podium.

In Denmark the big names were also left to dust. Just like the time-trial (before Johan Price-Pejtersen was disqualified) all the big favourites had to watch as an outsider took the gold. Rasmus Pedersen of the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Development team won ahead of Kasper Asgreen. Frederik Wandahl was third as the peloton with Mads Pedersen could only watch from the distance.

In Switzerland Mauro Schmid signaled his return to good form with a very important victory in his career. He beat Simon Pellaud and Stefan Bissegger ina hotly disputed race with a luxurious Top10.

In Luxembourg Groupama - FDJ took the victory, as Kevin Geniets won the sprint out of a seven-rider group that found itself fighting for victory.

In Ireland there was the third victory of the day for EF Education-EasyPost. After teammate Ben Healy last year, Darren Rafferty kept the Irish jersey in the American team. Dillion Corkery and Rory Townsend complete the podium.
