It's fair to say that
Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team's
Andrea Vendrame went pretty under the radar on the stage 10 individual time trial at the 2025
Giro d'Italia. A shocking post-stage revelation from the Italian though, has brought Vendrame's time trial performances to the forefront of people's minds.
Clocking the 45th fastest time, 2:29 down on the stage winner Daan Hoole, Vendrame explained in a post-stage interview with Eurosport France, how his efforts against the clock had been hampered by an attack from 'supporters' at the roadside. “I believe some spectators are throwing things at us right as we come through the final curve of the descent,” he recounted. “It’s obviously not a great situation — if we crash at 70 km/h, it’s definitely not ideal.”
Vendrame is certain too, that the intention of those throwing things was to make the riders crash. “I don’t know what it was, but I’m pretty sure it was something meant to make us fall,” he added in conclusion.
Following the scary scenes of protestors running out into the road earlier this Grand Tour, this is not the first time the safety of the riders has been brought into question at the 2025 Giro d'Italia, something concerning to see.
