Andre Greipel set to become new national coach of Germany

German sprinting legend Andre Greipel is set to become the new national coach of the Germany, succeeding BORA - hansgrohe sporting director, Jens Zemke.

"André not only brings an insane amount of experience, he is also not tied to a team and can therefore act freely and neutrally," said former teammate Marcus Burghardt, now a board member at the BDR in a press release. “This is the best solution we could find.”

Greipel, a 22-time Grand Tour stage winner was one of the fastest sprinters of his generation. Now, the 40-year-old hopes to pass on his vast experience to the next generation of German cycling, describing his new role as "a great challenge."

"I am really looking forward to working with the riders and getting the best out of them," Greipel says. "This generation of German cyclists is very good. It will be a challenging task to forge a close-knit team here.”
